In the evening of April 24, the awarding ceremony of 2013 VIFOTEC Awards and WIPO Awards to honor outstanding scientific and technological projects and inventors was held at Opera House in Ha Noi.
Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan; Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan; Chairman of Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Dang Ngoc Tung; representatives of relevant departments and agencies; scientists, innovators attended the ceremony.
This year, the Organization Board of Vifotec has presented to 33 projects that were from 86 entries sent to the competition including five first prizes, five second prizes, 12 third prizes and 11 consolation prizes, mainly in mechanics and automation, materials technology, information, electronics, telecommunications, biology and environment.
On this occasion, the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Awards have been presented to outstanding scientific and technological projects and inventors. The WIPO’s best project award was presented to Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Drainage and Urban Development Co., Ltd for its research on applying armoured concrete technique trench. The WIPO’s best female author prize went to Eng. Nguyen Thi Nguyet with her study on designing 500KV transformers.
Best young investor was also presented to Pham Van Toan, MSc, Eng. Ngo Thanh Binh, Dr. Nguyen Van Tan from Lac Hong University with the project "Designing and making automatic spark coil assembling system".
Five enterprises were also presented with Vietnam’s Intellectual Gold Cup, for applying intellectual property to their production, namely Hoa Tho Textile Garment Joint Stock Corporation (Da Nang city); Dang Phong Import - Export Services Commercial Production Co., Ltd. (Dak Lak province); SaiGon Plastic Joint Stock Company; Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Drainage and Urban Development Co., Ltd and Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Co., Ltd.

Addressing the ceremony, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan congratulated the winners and stressed that outstanding projects have contributed to encouraging science and technology innovation and research movements among nationwide scientific and technical officers, helping to develop the country.
Politburo member Nhan also asked the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Union of Scientific and Technological Associations, social organizations, relevant ministries and agencies to continue the VIFOTEC award, which should focus on hi-tech application, environmental protection and energy saving, contributing to realizing the Party resolution on developing scientific and technological applications.
Also on the occasion, the Ministry of Science and Technology launched the 2014 VIFOTEC award to promote the need for research into science and technology.
