18 teams from 17 countries and territories in the region competed at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2014 held at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, India on August 24 (Sun). Vietnam’s Lac Hong University team excellently defeated the Japan's team to win the championship title at the competition.
This is the fifth consecutive time the Lac Hong University from Dong Nai province has represented Vietnam at the regional competition, winning second prize three times at ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest 2010, 2012 and 2013. This is also the first time Lac Hong University wins gold at International Robocon.
Since the contest was initiated in Japan in 2002, the ABU Robocon this year, the 13th of its kind, marked the fourth time that Vietnam has won the championships, in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2014.
Beside the first prize, Lac Hong University was named for ABU Special Award at the event. Japan team and Indonesia team won silver and bronze, respectively.
ABU Robocon 2014 held by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union attracted the participation of 18 teams from 17 countries in the Asia and the Pacific region namely Bangladesh, Egypt, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Representing Vietnam was LH-NVN team from Dong Nai - based Lac Hong University. Next year, Indonesia will host the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest with the theme "Robominton"
