LHU is one of the seven universities in Vietnam to be selected to implement the BUILD – IT project. This is a project aiming at raising undergraduate educational competence, carried out by the government of United States of America and Arizona State University (ASU). After three months of making proposals with LHU, recently the “BUILD – IT” Project Management Board in Vietnam came back the University to continue to discuss the contents needed implementing in the coming time.

Receiving “BUILD – IT” Project's delegation were Chairman of Trustees Board, Rector Do Huu Tai, Vice Rector Lam Thanh Hien, Head of International Relations Dept. Huynh Trung Tam, Dean of Faculty of Mechatronics - Electronics Nguyen Vu Quynh and Vice Manager of Scientific Research Dept. Nguyen Thanh Lam. The delegation included Mr. Jeffrey Goss - Associate Vice Provost of ASU - Director of the BUILD – IT Project and Mr. Karl B. Theisen - CEO of BUILD – IT Project in Vietnam.
Established in 2010, “BUILD – IT” is a project of US Government in cooperation with Intel and ASU, aiming at changing policies of universities from management to others. Up to now, the project has experienced two stages and it currently is at the third one (2015 - 2020). Late 2015, LHU officially joined in this project.
In the coming time, the project will focus on developing lecturers' qualification according to two ways: Training relating to innovating undergraduate training program and Training relating to enhancing leading ability.
LHU is honored to be present in the project of US Government.
Reportedly, besides LHU, this project is cooperated by three universities in America including ASU, Catholic University of America and Portland State University, six universities in Vietnam including Vietnam National University - Hanoi, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, HCMC University of Technology and Education, Da Nang University of Science and Technology and Can Tho University. To effect the association, in the coming time, LHU will sign the cooperation agreement with representative of the project.
Mr. Karl B. Theisen is presenting activities of the project at the working session with LHU.
At the working session, Mr. Karl B. Theisen made an invitation to LHU to participate in presentations at "Technical Teaching Conference" on April 14 and 15, 2016 in Ho Chi Minh City. Also, Mr. Jeffrey Goss praised outstanding achievements made by LHU in international contests like Shell Eco Marathon ASIA and expressed his wish to be shared done things at the coming conference.
With the project BUILD – IT, Rector Do Huu Tai said that the University would study activities listed in the project. The University would also take every effort to carry out activities in the project and hoped to gain best results to 2020.
BUILD - IT project consists of nine main activities: - Connecting students with enterprises more closely; training necessary skills for students to meet the companies' need - Training leading skill for leaders in schools’ units (policies, strategies,...) - Encouraging female lecturers, staff and students to join in technical field and technical activities (participating in VISE club (Women in Science and Engineering)) - Supporting engineer training universities to international standard (focusing on teaching quality, maintaining and developing strategies,...) - Taking Vietnamese lecturers to ASU to take 4-6 week courses. To reduce expenses, BUILD – IT will send ASU lecturers to Vietnam to train some teachers and officials. - Supporting technical lecturers in building training projects flexibly between theory and practice - Promoting LAB and laboratory models - Providing materials, information resources available on electronic devices for member universities to use and refer. - Supporting universities to construct CLOUD system to store the data. |
