Shell Eco marathon ASIA - Not just a Game

Named for the champion for two consecutive years at Urban concept category with Ethanol E100 at the fuel-efficient vehicles contest 2015 and 2016, LHU team continues to its journey at the coming "Shell - Eco Marathon Asia" 2017 which will be held in Singapore from March 16 - 19.

LHU's LH - Gold Energy team firstly participated in the fuel-efficient vehicles contest in 2014 as a role of a "new comer", with the attitude ready to learn and get experience and technological solutions from senior teams.

The aim of the University was to find a playground for students to experience the reality. At that time, members of LH - Gold Energy team had a half year to find out ideas, design and create energy saving vehicles. Not dreaming the championship title, they participated in the contest with the walking spirit.

Participating in SEM 2014, LH - Gold Energy ranked top 10 best teams. This attracted great attention from the Organization Board and those who care about SEM since LHU was the first non-public school in Vietnam to join this competition. With members of LH - Gold Energy team, certainly they will never forget sincere encouragement made by Ms. Tuyet - General Director of Shell Vietnam Company that "LHU is too successful. Among teams in Vietnam, LHU is one of the two teams to overcome technical tests earliest - the team with fast adaptable speed and best support for Vietnamese teams, including interpretation part".

In 2015, LH - Gold Energy came back the contest after "having both feet on the ground". The team's members realized that this contest was not a walk anymore. They had to say "Shell - Eco marathon Asia" was a fully challenging race by its level and scale". The contest required players to incessantly innovate and create participating products. In addition, the competition forced future engineers to be brave to get practical lessons, how to face and deal with time pressure, how to behave with team-mates and international friends, how to express national pride, how to share difficulties,... how to show themselves.

At SEM, the team with vehicle that goes furthest using the least amount of fuel and their creative ideas can be applied in effective fuel using is the winner. Therefore, LHU team took every effort to fulfill their duties to fall into the top group. Surprisingly, LH - Gold Energy won Second Prize for Best video clip. Specially, LH - Gold Energy set up a new record at Urban Concept category with a result of 164.4 kilometers per liter of ethanol E100 and won the championship title at Shell - Eco marathon Asia 2015. This was the first time Vietnam won First Prize at SEM, which brought glory and pride to Vietnam in general and LHU in particular.

At SEM 2016, LH - Gold Energy continued Urban concept category and Ethanol fuel. The participating product was innovated and replaced to meet the contest's criteria. At the finals of the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2016 held in Manila, the Philippines, LHU students had successfully defended its championship title at Urban concept category with a result of 185 kilometers per liter of ethanol E100.

LH-Gold Energy is ready for the SEM 2017 organized in Singapore

Whether LH-Gold Energy overcomes challenges to defend its glory at SEM 2017 in Singapore or not. We think it is not so important since they have been the winner in the intellectual contest to get useful knowledge of energy saving as well as new ideas for this global issue.
